Let's listen and search

This is an activity to be done in class, but I'll describe how I would participate:

I would listen carefully to the instructions given by my classmate. Then, I'd look around the classroom or in my bag to find the items mentioned. For example, I might find a circular eraser for the "circle" item, or a triangle-shaped ruler. For the tea label, I might look in my lunchbox. It would be fun to see who can find all the items first!

Let's talk

1. Is there a bookshop near your home? If there is, do you like to visit it?

Yes, there is a small bookshop about two blocks from my house. I love visiting it! The shop owner is very friendly and always helps me find interesting books. The smell of new books and the colorful covers make me feel excited every time I go there.

2. What are the different kinds of books in this bookshop or in any other bookshop you have seen? Tell the class.

In our local bookshop, I've seen many types of books. There are storybooks with beautiful pictures, thick novels for older kids and adults, comic books with superheroes, science books full of cool facts and experiments, cookbooks with yummy recipes, and even books about how to draw and paint. My favorite section is the one with adventure stories and mysteries!

Let's write

1. Fill in more words into the passage below:

It was a dark night. A little girl sat up in bed listening to her mother tell a fascinating story. Her bright eyes opened wide and she gave a happy smile. "Now go to sleep, Paro," her mother closed the book. "Sweet dreams."

2. Imagine that you will go to the bookshop tomorrow. What will you do there? Write five sentences beginning with "I shall":

(Example answers)

  1. I shall look at different types of books.
  2. I shall read the back covers to see which stories interest me.
  3. I shall ask the shopkeeper for recommendations.
  4. I shall choose a book that I really like.
  5. I shall pay for the book and thank the shopkeeper.

3. Complete Tina's dialogue with the librarian by using "and" or "or" in the blanks:

Librarian: Do you want a story book or a book of poems?
Librarian: Do you like stories about animals or adventure stories?
Librarian: Go to the second cupboard. On the first shelf, you will find animal stories and on the second, adventure stories.
Tina: Ma'am, I want Black Beauty and Panchatantra Stories.
Librarian: You can have either Black Beauty or Panchatantra Stories.

4. What is your favourite book? Write down the name of the book. Then write down the story.

My favorite book is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl. Here's a short summary of the story:

Charlie Bucket is a poor boy who lives with his family near a mysterious chocolate factory. One day, the factory owner, Willy Wonka, announces a contest where five lucky children who find golden tickets in Wonka chocolate bars will get a tour of the factory. Charlie miraculously finds the last golden ticket!

Inside the factory, Charlie and the other children see amazing things like a chocolate river, edible grass, and Oompa Loompas who work there. The other children misbehave and face funny consequences, but Charlie stays kind and honest. In the end, Willy Wonka chooses Charlie to be his heir and gives him the whole chocolate factory! It's a wonderful story about being good, dreaming big, and the magic of imagination.
